Tucked snugly along the riverfront, diners can enjoy a lovely view whilst feasting on delicious seafood. It also boasts a expansive wine selection of over 500 wine labels from around the world, with a strong focus on Italian wines. It has a particularly good selection of German wines as well.

LSE–Cornell Joint Speaker Series II – A Evening with the IMF

Ravi Balakrishnan (LSE, PhD) and Sunil Sharma (Cornell, PhD) will discuss the global economic and financial outlook, as well as the challenges for policymakers. The IMF’s recently published World Economic Outlook and Global Financial Stability Report suggests that the economic recovery is becoming more uncertain. The world economy suffers from the confluence of two adverse developments. The first is a much slower recovery in advanced economies since the beginning of the year. The second is a large increase in fiscal and financial uncertainty, which has been particularly pronounced since August. Each of these developments is worrisome— their combination and their interactions more so. Strong policies are urgently needed to improve the outlook and reduce the risks.

Speakers will present for a total of 30 minutes, and then there will be an informal open discussion.

Event Details:
Date: Tuesday, 06 December 2011

    Synopsis

Shakespeare in the Park - Macbeth
Part of the Audi Classics Series
    Presented by Transtec

    Produced by Singapore Repertory Theatre

    “Double, double toil and trouble...”

Long before vampires and witches become fashionable, Shakespeare wrote the most famous supernatural suspense-thriller of all time.

Following the success of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Much Ado About Nothing, SRT brings you Macbeth this April – a dramatic experience that will have you on the edge of your picnic blanket

Without the constraints of the traditional proscenium arch, with heavens above, the grass below, this will be a sensorial experience. Almost a filmic thriller – fast-paced and exhilarating.

On a mysterious night in the forest, three witches tell Macbeth that he is destined to become the King. But Macbeth and his wife have more political ambition than patience, and they decide to take fate into their own hands by conspiring to kill the virtuous King Duncan and anyone who stands between them and the throne.

The bloodshed and paranoia spiral out of control until everyone is ensnared: the king, the royal court, and eventually even the Macbeths themselves.

Spread a picnic blanket out under the stars and enter the world of Macbeth, one of Shakespeare's most dazzling and mysterious masterpieces. Whether you are fascinated by political intrigue, love exciting battle scenes, relish luscious language, or just want to enjoy an al fresco bottle of blood-red wine, Macbeth will be a remarkable evening for all.

LSEAAS - Tribute to the Director

The LSEAAS Committee cordially invites alumni to a special event, “Tribute to the Director”.

Sir Howard Davies is Director of the LSE. Singapore was his first stopover before he was appointed Director of the LSE in 2003. His visit this time is particularly poignant as he steps down as Director of the LSE on 28 April 2011.

The alumnus has always been at the heart of Howard Davies’ endeavours at the LSE. Despite a brief stopover and a full schedule, he still finds the opportunity to meet with alumni here in Singapore. Join us as we pay tribute to, and celebrate the enormous contributions and successes he brought to the LSE in his tenure.

The LSE Asia Forum is an important and very public part of the School's strategy to enhance its long standing relationship with the rapidly developing Asian region. LSE has historically attracted many very talented students and staff from all major Asian countries. The School has a large and distinguished group of alumni in the region and has been active in building partnerships with business and governments for many years.

The LSE Asia Forum is a unique opportunity to bring together LSE's key partners in the region. The Forum provides an opportunity for analysis of different perspectives on the economic, social, political and cultural contributions Asia is making to global development.

The first LSE Asia Forum took place in March 2004 in Bangkok, Thailand. The theme was Asia: the future of the world economy. LSE was especially gratified that Prime Minister His Excellency Dr Thaksin Shinawatra formally opened the forum. Further details of this event can be found at LSE Asia Forum - Thailand 2004.

Hong Kong was the venue for the second Asia Forum. whose theme was Managing the Dynamics of Growth and which took place in September 2005. Further details of this event can be found at LSE Asia Forum - Hong Kong 2005.

Challenging Globalisation: reform, governance and society was the theme of LSE Asia Forum 2006 which took place in New Delhi, India in December 2006. Further details of this event can be found at LSE Asia Forum - India 2006.

    PRESS NEWS:
"More help for Singaporean students at LSE" reported the local daily, Today, on Wednesday, 14 April 2010.

SINGAPORE - More needy and deserving Singaporeans will have help to study at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) - thanks to $170,000 raised last night at a dinner.

The awards from the Singapore LSE Trust Endowment Fund have no bond attached. To date, the trust has raised more than $470,000 since its formation in 2004, according to Mr Eddie Teo, its chairman and LSE alumnus.

The awards have been given to six Singaporeans so far, three of whom are back in Singapore. The awards were at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Mr Teo, who is also chairman of the Public Service Commission, said the dinner marked the start of efforts to fund a more permanent endowment to benefit Singaporean students in the years ahead.

There are 230 students from Singapore currently at the LSE. Students who have already gained offers of admission from LSE are eligible for scholarship support from the Trust.

Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, an LSE alumnus, and more than 160 alumni attended the dinner.
