Tête-à-Tête with Dr. Razeen Sally
The LSEAAS warmly welcomes Dr. Razeen Sally back to Singapore, and is delighted to host him to an evening to meet with alumni.
Given the gravity of the economic shift to Asia under the current fiscal strains in Europe and US, it is fortuitous as it is timely for us to have Dr. Sally share his insights and research on the topic, "
Can Asia Lead? The Shift to the East in Global Economics and Politics after the Crisis”.

Research Summary:
Dr. Razeen Sally's research focuses on trade policy in Asia, the WTO and preferential trade agreements. He has written on trade and investment issues in China, India and the ASEAN countries, as well as on EU trade policy and the global trading system more generally. His book, "New Frontiers in Free Trade", was published by the Cato Institute in Washington DC in 2008 (also published as "Trade Policy, New Century" by the Institute of Economic Affairs in the UK). He has also written on the intellectual history of political economy, especially the theory of commercial policy.
Dr. Sally is now working on EU and Asia trade issues for ECIPE in Brussels and on two books, one on Asia in the world economy after the crisis, and the other on my native Sri Lanka.
Non LSE positions held:
Dr. Razeen Sally is also co-Director of the European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE), a international economic policy think tank based in Brussels. He is presently on a leave of absence from the LSE, where he has taught since 1993. He received his Ph.D from the LSE in 1992, and did post-doctoral research at INSEAD in France.
Dr. Sally is Senior Research Associate at the South African Institute of International Affairs in Johannesburg. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Institut D’Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris, Senior Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) in Singapore, a Visiting Fellow at the University of Hong Kong, and Director, Trade Policy, at the Commonwealth Business Council in London. He is on the Academic Advisory Council of the Institute of Economic Affairs in London, and on the Advisory Board of the Cato Centre for Trade Policy Studies in Washington DC.
